Delighted to show you this new bird portrait! It’s a reduction linoleum print inspired by the Brambling and the 17th bird of this series. There are 17 colour layers printed for this linoleum print which was quite a puzzle. Yellow and orange tones are usually not the easiest to print because of the transparencies in this colors. Making the order of the ink layers even more important as the previous layer influences the color tone a lot. It required much testing to mix exactly the right color that could be printed on top of the previous color. The somewhat muted colors at the beginning of the process seemed to completely blend together at first, but beautifully came back to life individually after the dark colors were printed next to them. It’s always interesting to see how colors can enhance or weaken each other. In this case it made me doubt my choices for a while until the dark colors did everything justice again.
